HERE ARE OUR TOP THREE TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL STREET PARTY:
FOOD & DRINK
We’d suggest asking everyone attending to contribute by bringing their own speciality dish or drink. That way, you’ll have a widespread and it’ll cater to everyone in your community, from vegans and veggies to cake-lovers. Also, consider that you will be standing, so cold bites and finger food are good options.
We’re partial to a coronation chicken sandwich, followed by a generous slice of Victoria Sponge and a glass of Pimms ( don’t forget the mint, strawberries and cucumber)
DECORATIONS TO EMBRACE THE PARTY VIBE
Hang bunting between the houses, crisscrossed over the road to unite the street and bring a sense of solidarity. Get creative as you don’t need to buy it new; recycle old materials you have lying at home inspired by the colours of the Union Jack or Jubilee purple. You could include the street name on it and the year in commemorating the platinum jubilee.
CAN'T sew? no problem; cut out a triangle template, and glue them to a string to create a garland. It’s a great opportunity to get the kids involved.
Add old ribbons, lace, string or coloured crepe paper to the backs of chairs to give them a bright makeover. More is more, and we all are overdue some celebrations.
MUSIC TO GET THE PARTY STARTED
If you are hosting your street party simultaneously as one of the official Platinum Jubilee celebrations, you can pop the event on BBC One in the background and enjoy the merriment live from the Palace.
Alternatively, use one of the streaming services to curate your own playlist! Ask everyone attending to drop a few of their favourite tracks in there. Either way, we think we can all agree that God Save the Queen should be on there at some point.
Some of the Queen’s favourites include:
-Oklahoma! Howard Keel
-Anything You Can Do (Annie Get Your Gun), Dolores Gray and Bill Johnson
-Sing, Gary Barlow and the Commonwealth Band feat. the Military Wives
-Cheek to Cheek, Fred Astaire
-The White Cliffs Of Dover, Vera Lynn
-Lester Lanin Medley
We hope you have a wonderful and joyous time celebrating with family, friends and neighbours marking this significant occasion. Tag us in yours so we can share @Whiterowfarm
